INCOGNITO 5/3/08
Santa Monica Museum of Art 1988-2008: independent, eclectic, adventurous, versatile, pluralistic, experimental, provocative

400 ARTISTS PARTICIPATE IN
INCOGNITO
SATURDAY, MAY 3, 2008, 7 to 9:30 P.M.
SANTA MONICA MUSEUM OF ART'S
FOURTH ANNUAL BENEFIT EXHIBITION AND ART SALE

WHAT:
On Saturday, May 3, 2008, purchasing a major work of art is at its most affordable at INCOGNITO. Over 500 works by 400 contemporary artists will be on sale for only $300 each.

What's the catch? All the 8" x 10" format works in this innovative benefit exhibition and art sale are signed on the back. "Trust Your Instincts" to guide your selections as artist identities are revealed only after purchase. Whether you are already a collector or want to start a collection, this fast-paced event is a great opportunity to purchase art because you like what you see. And in today's economy, INCOGNITO is one of the best art world deals around.

INCOGNITO features hundreds of works created by acclaimed local, national, and international contemporary artists, including four new Guggenheim Fellows: Joe Fyfe, Martin Kersels, Rebecca Morris, and Ruben Ochoa. Congratulations winners!

The logo for INCOGNITO 2008 is designed by Barbara Kruger.

INCOGNITO benefits the Santa Monica Museum of Art, a kunsthalle-non-collecting museum-which commemorates its Twentieth Anniversary this year. Through its exhibitions, education, and outreach programs, SMMoA fosters diversity, innovation, and discovery in contemporary art-local, national, and international. The Museum celebrates: expanding boundaries; exploring individual differences; enhancing public knowledge of art; and broadening the art experience. SMMoA is a collection of ideas.

FLUIDS: A HAPPENING BY ALLAN KAPROW
DURING THREE DAYS, ABOUT TWENTY RECTANGULAR ENCLOSURES OF ICE BLOCKS (MEASURING ABOUT 30 FEET LONG, 10 WIDE AND 8 HIGH) ARE BUILT THROUGHOUT THE CITY. THEIR WALLS ARE UNBROKEN. THEY ARE LEFT TO MELT.

On April 25, 26, and 27, 2008, in conjunction with the exhibition Allan Kaprow—Art As Life (presented at the Geffen Contemporary at MOCA), LACMA will coordinate the reinvention of Allan Kaprow’s Fluids. First realized for his 1967 exhibition at the Pasadena Art Museum, Fluids will be built by teams of volunteers at sites across Los Angeles.

If you would like to participate in the building of Fluids, please contact Michele Urton, Assistant Curator,
